If you are a true sketch artist who does a lot of portraits or an experienced painter, then maybe there are times when pen, paper or brushes just aren't enough anymore. What can you do in such situations? You could use Paint, the default Windows image editing software but, unfortunately, this lacks a lot of features. You could, of course, turn to Adobe Photoshop, a popular image editing software. But again, this has its downsides. It's expensive, difficult to master and needs a lot of system resources. Project Dogwaffle Howler is the best choice. The program allows anyone to create astonishing paintings using a lot of drawing tools and even allows animating them. The software has much more features than the Paint program included in Windows, but at the same time, it doesn't have special system requirements, being able to run even on older computers.

The software is compatible with almost any version of the Windows operating system, like XP or Windows 7. It has a straightforward installation process.

The interface of Project Dogwaffle Howler resembles the one of other similar programs, thus allowing any type of user to quickly get familiar with it. There are numerous types of brushes available for drawing. Besides drawing from scratch, Project Dogwaffle Howler can also import a wide range of image formats and can apply various effects to them. These effects will make the image seem like it was painted and not photographed. Images can also be directly imported from scanners.

Project Dogwaffle Howler includes an animation feature that uses frames for animating any kind of image or drawing. The feature seems a bit difficult to use for inexperienced users. Completed animations can be saved as regular AVI files, using various quality settings.

Edited images or drawings can be exported to one of the many types of image files supported by the program or can be directly printed.

Pros

It supports a wide range of image formats, for opening and also for saving them. Besides that, it includes a simple interface that resembles the one of other similar programs, allowing the user to quickly get familiar with it. Furthermore, an animation feature is offered, which can create movement using frames. Last but not least, images can be beautified by applying various effects to them.

Cons

The animation feature seems a bit difficult to use, especially by inexperienced users. Project Dogwaffle Howler is a great alternative to any image editing software out there, featuring a nice animation feature.
