There are numerous types of brushes available for drawing. Besides drawing from scratch, Project Dogwaffle Howler can also import a wide range of image formats and can apply various effects to them. These effects will make the image seem like it was painted and not photographed. Images can also be directly imported from scanners.

Project Dogwaffle Howler includes an animation feature that uses frames for animating any kind of image or drawing. The feature seems a bit difficult to use for inexperienced users. Completed animations can be saved as regular AVI files, using various quality settings.

Edited images or drawings can be exported to one of the many types of image files supported by the program or can be directly printed.
